Accredited training for school staff

Our speech and language CPD courses are for teachers, TAs, SENCos and everyone who works in the classroom to support children with SLCN.

Places are available for the autumn on our Introduction to Speech and Language module and Language Intervention module. See below for more details. Each interactive online module takes around 20 hours over an eight to ten week period and includes child-focused assignments with feedback from the speech and language therapist tutor. The courses are flexible to fit in with your busy school life and do not assume use of a particular intervention package. Learn more below or go straight to the booking page!

Therapist led courses

We have poured our passion, experience and expertise into the development of The Link Speech & Language CPD. These innovative online courses are written and delivered by our team of speech and language therapists enabling expert guidance and tailored individual feedback.

They are designed to offer primary school staff clear and comprehensive information to deepen their understanding of how to support and develop speech, language and communication skills in the classroom.

We understand school life is busy, so we have designed our platform to allow teachers and TAs to learn at their own pace, at a time convenient to them. The courses are fully accredited by CPD UK and represent around 20 hours of training, taken across 8-10 weeks depending on the pace of the individual learner.

The training modules

Each course starts with a short introductory, live webinar hosted by one of our speech and language therapist tutors. All of our tutors are on hand throughout the course to guide learning, mark assignments and facilitate discussion in the course forum.

Participants are encouraged to join the forum for their course to discuss learning points and classroom practice, and share their own observations, ideas, and questions with their peers and tutor.

On successful completion of the course participants will receive a certificate.

Introduction to Speech and Language

The Introduction to Speech and Language module develops participants’ understanding of what is meant by ‘speech’, ‘language’ and ‘communication’ and how children acquire speech and language skills.

Participants will learn about the impact of SLCN on learning and how to create a communication-friendly environment within the classroom and wider school environment, so that all students, not just those with SLCN, can fully access their education. This course is accredited by CPD UK

How to book this module

Language Intervention

The Language Intervention course follows on from the introductory module, focusing on understanding language difficulties in an educational context.

Participants will learn about effective strategies to support the understanding and spoken language skills of children both within the classroom and across the school.
It also covers planning and delivering successful language interventions at targeted and specialist levels, and how to measure progress. This course is accredited by CPD UK

How to book this module

The biggest impact The Link CPD had on my own practice is my increased knowledge and confidence when supporting small group work or 1-1 interventions. The course has equipped me with a host of strategies to use when working with children, that I wouldn’t even have considered before.
